Google Ad Grants management for nonprofits — up to $10,000 per month in Google search ads, managed for compliance by MCNM Marketing

Google Ad Grants Management That Keeps Nonprofits Compliant

Google Ad Grants management is the difference between a nonprofit that quietly loses its $10,000 a month and one that turns it into donors, volunteers and program signups. Google gives qualifying nonprofits up to $10,000 per month in search ads on Google.com — but the grant comes with compliance rules that deactivate accounts, and most organizations breach them without ever being told.

MCNM Marketing manages live Ad Grants accounts for nonprofits across Southern Nevada, Southern California and Northern Arizona. We do this work every week, not as a side service.

What the $10,000 actually is — and what it is not

Google states the award plainly: qualifying nonprofits get “up to $10,000 per month in search ads shown on Google.com.” Two words in that sentence do the heavy lifting.

“Up to” means it is a ceiling, not a deposit. Unspent budget does not roll over. Most grant accounts spend a fraction of it and nobody notices, because there is no invoice to flinch at.

“Search ads” means the grant is a search program. It is not display, and it is not a general advertising fund.

The daily number that matters: Google’s budgeting guidance puts the $10,000 monthly cap at approximately $329 per day. If your account’s daily budgets total materially less than that, you are leaving grant money on the table every single day — and it does not accumulate.

The compliance rules that deactivate accounts

These are Google’s published Ad Grants policies, not agency opinion. Breaching them is what puts an account into temporary deactivation.

Click-through rate

Your account must maintain a 5% click-through rate each month, measured at account level rather than per keyword. Miss it for two consecutive months and Google can temporarily deactivate the account.

Keyword rules

No single-word keywords, with limited exceptions for branded terms and approved medical conditions. No overly generic keywords. And no keywords carrying a quality score of 1 or 2.

Account structure

At least two ad groups per campaign, with keywords aligned to the ads and the landing page. At least two sitelink assets. Location settings must be geo-targeted to where your services or audience actually are.

Bidding and conversions

Accounts created after 22 April 2019 must use conversion-based Smart Bidding on every campaign — Maximize Conversions, Maximize Conversion Value, Target CPA, or Target ROAS. Those accounts must also have at least one meaningful conversion type configured and accrue at least one conversion per month.

The failure we find most often: a grant account running Manual CPC with no conversion tracking configured at all. That is not a tuning problem. For any account created after April 2019 it is a policy breach on two counts at once, and it means nobody can prove the grant has produced a single donation.

Is a Google Ad Grant the same as paid Google Ads?

No, and treating them the same is why grant accounts underperform. They are different programs with different rules and different jobs.

Most nonprofits we work with run both. The grant carries high-intent search demand at no cost; paid budget covers what the grant structurally cannot. If you want paid campaigns managed alongside the grant, that sits with our Google Ads management service.

What our Ad Grants management covers

Every engagement starts with a compliance audit, because there is no point optimizing an account that is about to be switched off.

  • Compliance repair — CTR recovery, keyword cleanup against the single-word and quality-score rules, ad group and sitelink structure, geo-targeting.
  • Conversion tracking build — donations, volunteer signups, form fills and calls, configured so Smart Bidding has something real to optimize toward and the monthly conversion requirement is met.
  • Smart Bidding migration — moving campaigns onto the conversion-based strategies Google requires, once tracking is producing data.
  • Budget utilization — closing the gap between what your account spends and the $329-a-day the grant permits.
  • Monthly reporting — CTR against the 5% threshold, conversions, and what the grant actually produced.

Ad Grants work pairs naturally with local SEO, since grant traffic converts better when your Google Business Profile and landing pages support it. The full picture is on our digital marketing services page.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Google Ad Grants management cost?

Management fees vary by account size and whether the account needs compliance repair before optimization. An account facing deactivation takes more work upfront than a healthy one. We quote after reviewing the account, because pricing a grant account sight-unseen usually means pricing the wrong problem.

Can a Google Ad Grant account get suspended?

Yes. Google can temporarily deactivate an account that falls below the 5% click-through rate for two consecutive months, and compliance violations also trigger deactivation. Accounts are recoverable, but reactivation costs weeks of lost grant spend that never comes back.

Why is my Google Ad Grant spending so little?

Usually one of three reasons: daily budgets set well below the roughly $329 the grant allows, bidding that cannot compete because conversion tracking was never configured, or keyword sets so restricted by compliance rules that there is little inventory left to win.

Do I need conversion tracking for Google Ad Grants?

If your account was created after 22 April 2019, yes — Google requires at least one meaningful conversion type and at least one conversion per month. It is also a practical requirement, since the Smart Bidding strategies Google mandates cannot function without conversion data.

Do you work with nonprofits outside Las Vegas?

Yes. Ad Grants management is remote work, and we manage accounts across Southern Nevada, Southern California and Northern Arizona. The grant serves wherever your geo-targeting points, so your location matters less than your audience’s.

Beyond the grant

Ad Grants caps out at ,000 a month in Google-funded spend. Most nonprofits eventually need paid reach alongside it:
